El Paso, and Alamogordo...

Fort Bliss is a major military base here in Texas.  And since I have been here in El Paso, my good friend Francis, and his wife Gail gave me a tour of part of the base where he works.

I went to Alamogordo to see another friend of mine, Laura.  We went to White Sands National Monument, and had a lot of fun with the youngsters.  Her three children greeted me by jumping on me and taking me down to the ground.  (LOL) I have not seen them in several years, and they have grown!

Laura, her children, Francis and Gail, and I went trick or treating with them.  Their costumes were great.

I am building another CART, and Francis is going to help me with this one.  He is military and has skills that I dont have.  We will get a great cart back out on the road for sure.

My friends as Mystic Wolf  Trading Post have some wonderful Native jewelry.  If you like hand made authentic native jewelry, just check out their page, and let them know.

I still have 4 to 5 days here and I need to make sure that I can get the things I need before I leave.  That means I will need to get supplies in the next few days.

Going to several places and working there to be able to get the things I need.

That is all for today.

Heading to El Paso, finally

My dilemma...

Dilemma...

I was talking to a guy here in Phoenix and he told me that if I could find someone to take the cart to El Paso, TX, someone who is moving and might be willing to pay me to help them, I would be doing better...

That is an awesome scenario and one that I hope comes true.  How likely am I to find a person going to El Paso, and willing to pay me?

I dont know, but I guess I can start looking.  I only have about 12 hours left, or I will have to get rid of the cart, which is something I didnt want to do.

If anyone here has a suggestion, or knows of someone moving from Phoenix, please let me know...

So what I feared has come.

Already I was told by the Arizona Highway Patrol that I am not able to walk on the freeways.  No longer will I.  Today, I made a call to the New Mexico Highway Patrol...

As they have stated to me, people are not allowed to walk on the freeway.

That is not good, and the reason, because from the Arizona/New Mexico border all the way to El Paso, TX, it is interstate the entire way.

That is the only way to get to El Paso, by the way.  I looked, and I have no choice but to dump my cart at a recycle center and get on a greyhound heading to El Paso, TX.

I hate to do this, but I have to accept reality.

Plans have changed once again...

Will update in the next few days.

The change we want to see in the world...

What is waiting for me in Phoenix?

Since arriving here, at about 5 pm, the people have been inviting, and helpful.  No real problems.  This morning I was asked by a police officer to leave the side lot of Safeway.  (I stayed there last night.)  He noticed that the cart was full of cans, and asked me how I was transporting all of it.

I told him the reason I was traveling and what I was doing in Phoenix, and that the cart has wheels.  I was picking up cans along the side of the road to turn in for cash.  He thought that was a great idea.  Seeing that I was on the side of the road almost all day and walking 25 miles (daily), it made sense.

Then he asked me if I needed to find a homeless shelter, and I told him that I didnt need one.  My cart prevents me from going to certain places, and besides, about everything I own will more than likely be stolen.  I am not going to be here for more than 4 days anyway.  He then asked me if I needed anything, and I said no, and thanked him for his concern.  A great guy.  :)

So, I have opted to stay outside and as far away as I can from the public eye.  I understand how annoying it is to have to see people like me on a daily basis.  I get it, I look homeless, and I am an eyesore.  I know that not all people who are homeless, I call myself "houseless", are just scavengers.  Many would rather get things for free, rather than work for it.

I was raised with the mentality to work for my meals/housing/clothing.  Even if I am not offered a meal AFTER I volunteer, I am not worried because I know that there are soup kitchens out there where I can volunteer, and eat after.  This is where I get together with the people in the long lines and let them know that service to their fellow man is the best form of charity.

Leading by example is not easy, but it is rewarding.  You start to see a change in yourself, and in the community.

I may not be in a certain place for a long time, but I know that the time I do spend with these people will forever be implanted in their minds.  That is what I am looking for.  Not that I, personally, want to be remembered, but the things people can do with their time in the community where they live.

Last year, I was watching a half hour YouTube video.  I asked myself, after it ended, what I could have done instead of watching it.  A half hour is not really a lot of time.  Writing this blog, when I am able to, takes about half an hour due to picture uploads and editing.

What can WE do with a half hour?  Well, I will end with a quote from our late president, John F. Kennedy.

"One person can make a difference, and everyone should try."

If everyone gave a half hour of their time every week, things would change quickly.  We are the force that makes the change in our area.  Dont wait for the other guy to start...

Hello to all VTA users and friends of my blog.  :)

Well, I am now in Sun City, AZ.  Just a few miles from Phoenix, and excited about the next week.
First, I want to thank the folks at Wells Country Store for the wonderful pizza, and the convo.

Stephanie was especially wonderful.  We chatted outside, (rather I chatted her ear off) for about 15 minutes as I explained what my trip was about.  She took a picture of me holding my sign.

Yes, I have been collecting aluminum cans from Yuma to here in Sun City.  That is another way to make some money on the trip.  (I dont like asking people for money, so since I go and volunteer my time in each city I arrive in, there is always a way to earn money.)

In Phoenix tomorrow, and will be there for 4 days.  I wanted to spend a week, but my time is limited due to the cart breaking down.

Here are some more pics from Wickenburg, to Sun City...

The pedestrian walkway across the Hassayampa River, and some history of Wickenburg on a board next to the river.  Hassayampa means “following the water as far as it goes.”  It is also known as the river that runs upside down.  This is because most of it runs underground.

I do not know what made this flowering plant so special, but when I passed by it, the ENTIRE thing was covered with bees, wasps, a few butterflies, and flies.  It was the only plant as far as I could see, and I guess the bugs REALLY liked it...
The couple here gave me a huge bag of cans, and also helped me to get on my way again.  :)

This is the site of Tiki Rick.  He is listed in the book, "Weird Arizona".  This is just outside Wickenburg.

My cart at the Wishing Well Park.  This is about 2 hours before my cart got full of cans.

My new friend Josh.  He was very nice to listen to my VirtaCoin speech.  Thanks bro, and the sandwich was awesome!  (y)

That was it.  Wickenburg to Sun City is 40 miles.

Phoenix is just a few miles away, and finally I am here!  :)
